The Teen Writing Center will host our first Fundraising Night  on November 17th at Cityspace, 100 5th St NE, Charlottesville, from 4 to 6PM.

Tickets are $25, and may be purchased at the door.  All tickets will be entered into a raffle for four hand-letterpressed posters at the end of the evening.  Catered hors d’oeuvres and a selection of local wines are complemented by a stellar evening of fun and information!  Come meet us and see what we are doing,  and support our project!  If you are lucky you might walk away with one of our student’s letterpressed posters!

We are thrilled to be able to present to you the Jazz Band of Travis Grice,  a winner of our local Rising Star Awards for upper class high school artists.  The Rising Star Awards are a special nomination based recognition of excellence in our young artists by the Piedmont Council of the Arts as a way to launch these passionate young people in their careers.  Please visit their site and consider them for your own events,  I promise they will exceed your expectations!  We will have a few more surprises,  come see!

Our teens have a wish list, and would love to share our plans with you.

The National Student Poet for our region lives in Vienna Virginia.  We can bring her to the Virginia Festival of the Book to visit schools,  but we need funds for travel expenses.

Our teens would like to create a winter chapbook, and the Virginia Arts of the Book Center has been incredibly generous and is allowing us to “press” our covers for the chapbooks.  We need funds for paper, and to print the signatures (pages).

We would like to print an anthology of teen writing from all area high school teen writers.  We feel this would be a huge sign to our young writers that the community values the written word as an art form, not just a language class.  We will need funds to print this, and it can be a fundraiser for 2014.  If we can,  it would be lovely to include teen artists to illustrate it, and use it to help our youth through the entire publication process!  We welcome writers who would like to help with this project.

Lastly, we are an all volunteer organization. To maintain our excellent programming we would like to be able to support our teachers and writers and allow our young writers to invite a couple of authors they want to meet. We would love to be able to offer some stipends and give our teens the chance to invite a favorite author.

Please consider a ticket or donation (but we would love to see you!)
