An ode is a poem that expresses a poet’s thoughts about an object or person in lyric fashion. Pablo Neruda’s odes are aimed at ordinary people, using common language, the language of the street. In doing so he elevates objects like the onion, finding immense beauty, in an almost rapturous sense.
