“We come to together as strangers, from different schools and different lives, and sit and talk and write and bond. We form a community, and then scatter to our separate lives again, renewed in our passion for writing.” So emerged the title for our winter chapbook, Crossroads. We have some major thanks to give. First, to our amazing young writers. This is a stunning little book, and it is our thanks to you for helping us develop this program, this vision for our community! You wrote the contents, dreamed up the title, and printed the covers yourselves! Garrett Queen provided patient mentorship and opened the doors of the Virginia Art of the Book Center to let you letterpress these covers, and Jacqui Lazo and edited and I organized your work into a manuscript, Rob Garland selected photographs from Monticello High School photography students, and Kat Zantow spent countless hours putting the manuscript into InDesign, meeting to edit and tweak and select and to create this gorgeous thing, a first for us all! Proal Heartwell of the Village School sent us to Bailey Printing, and Molly Schwartzburg is about receive a new book for the UVA Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library, in which all our students will now be included as published authors! We have many more to acknowledge and some fabulous writing and photography inside the covers of Crossroads. For a copy contact twc@tupelopress.org
